On the B2 floor, there are two new rooms. The door separating the greenhouse and its control room is unlocked like it is in the current game, but I marked it red because at one point, it will become locked. As for the south door in the B1 Lobby, it is broken beyond repair and cannot be used by the player. In the room before the B1 Lobby, the south door is no longer blocked by tables and other furniture. I have added new rooms, displayed with green lines, and new doors, displayed with blue and red lines. X only chases the player for tops 20 seconds.īecause I have nothing else to do on this beautiful Saturday morning, I put to use my extensive Microsoft Paint skills to modify the map of the East area of the NEST to make it somewhat what it should have been, at least to satisfy me.Īlright, here's the rundown. X chase" in the East area is completely wasted, as Mr. I wanted it to have that sprawling feeling of the police station. Not police-station longer, but longer than its current incarnation. The final level of the game should have been longer. That aspect is the level design of the NEST laboratory. Had it not been for that aspect, the game would have been pretty much perfect in my eyes. There is only one aspect of the game that has disappointed me. It's honestly a real accomplishment in game design and the talented people at Capcom deserve all the credit they can get for it. X also all contribute to giving the police station a real sense of place and making that place look utterly terrifying to be stuck in. The new behavior design of the zombies, the fact that they can follow you through most doors, the lack of any loading screens and the presence of Mr. The sheer number of rooms and shortcuts and content that has been added to the police station is enormous and makes the comparisons to a metroidvania game or to a Dark Souls game way more appropriate. There was just a little something missing to the level design. However, that comparison was not flawless, as the maps were not sprawling enough to 100% justify it. In the past, the Resident Evil games (the classic ones), have been described as being similar-ish to metroidvania games in its level design, with its being sprawling and having unlockable shortcuts. This last part contributed a lot to making me love the police station. It's bigger and spookier, and there is more criss-crossing.

It is improved on the original in every imaginable way. One of the reasons I love it so much is the design of the police station. I have played a lot of it since it came out, and I'm pretty sure when all is said and done, the game will end up in my top five games of all time. Like a lot of people here, I have been playing Resident Evil 2.
